Driving from Aberdeen

The A361 from M5 Junction 27 to Barnstaple is approximately 35 miles, mostly dual carriageway with some single-carriageway sections. Budget around an hour for the full A361 and Barnstaple-to-Woolacombe stretch in peak summer.

Barnstaple is the railhead for Woolacombe, not Woolacombe itself. From Barnstaple, Stagecoach route 303 runs to Woolacombe on the current April 2026 timetable, including Barnstaple Bus Station and Barnstaple Railway Station on some services. The exact interchange list changes with dates and engineering work, so build the plan from National Rail's journey planner rather than a fixed example.
