Drive through Braunton, follow the B3231 towards Croyde and use the signed beach entrance before the Saunton Sands Hotel. Main car park

The beach-side car park is the normal arrival point

Saunton does not work like Woolacombe village, where several car parks sit around a resort centre. The useful arrival point is the beach-side Saunton Beach car park, with the beach, dunes and facilities reached from the same area. The operator describes the entrance as off the B3231 from Braunton, after Saunton Sands Golf Club and before the hotel.

That makes the decision simple: if your day is Saunton Sands, park at Saunton rather than trying to improvise from Croyde, Braunton or the dunes with beach bags. Each nearby beach has a different parking pattern, and switching late on a sunny school-holiday day can mean joining traffic with no better plan.

Payment

How Saunton parking currently works

Checked on 14 July 2026, the Saunton Beach operator says the car park uses a barrierless ANPR system introduced on 4 November 2025. It is pay-on-exit, so you drive in without taking a ticket, remember your vehicle registration, then pay before leaving.

The operator lists payment at car park terminals, the Beach Shop, the YourParkingSpace app using location ID 12154, or QR codes on car park signs. App, web or QR payments may include a third-party service charge.

Do not rely on an old photo of a tariff board or a review site. If the operator page and the signs disagree, follow the current signs and ask staff before you leave the car park.

Charges

Current published tariff and charging hours

The operator's published tariff, checked on 14 July 2026, is 20 minutes free for drop-off, then GBP 1.75 for up to 1 hour, GBP 3.50 for up to 2 hours, GBP 6.00 for up to 3 hours and GBP 8.50 for up to 4 hours. After that, it lists an extra GBP 1 for every hour or part hour.

Current published charging hours are seasonal: 8am to 5pm from 16 October to 15 March, 8am to 7pm from 16 March to 30 April, 8am to 9pm from 1 May to 31 August, and 8am to 7pm from 1 September to 15 October. These are variable operating details, so check the operator page before budgeting the day.

The operator states that no overnight parking is allowed, so campervans and long sunset visits need a clear exit plan.

Timing

When to arrive with children, surf kit or dogs

For a calm family arrival in summer, treat Saunton like a main beach, not a quiet dune stop. Earlier is easier if you need to unload children, boards, windbreaks and bags close to the beach access.

Late morning is the risky window on warm school-holiday days. If you are coming after lunch, have a fallback plan before you reach Braunton, such as a later beach session or a different North Devon beach with parking that suits your route.

What to check before you leave the car

Saunton's official beach information says facilities are easy to locate on arrival and that car park staff can help with questions. Still check anything essential before walking far down the beach, especially toilets, food, accessibility needs, surf hire or the return route through the dunes.

North Devon Council's June 2025 committee record says the council does not own, maintain or operate Saunton Beach car park. It also records a planned surrender of the council's lease for the Saunton Beach toilets in November 2025. Because responsibility can change, rely on current operator information and on-site signs rather than assuming council parking rules apply.

If accessibility is essential, contact the operator or check official accessibility information before travelling. Do not assume a space, surface, toilet or route will meet your needs just because the car park is close to the beach.
